Honey Butter Face Polish is a cleansing balm based on my powdered Foaming Charcoal Cleanser. While many customers enjoy using that powder alone or customizing it themselves by mixing it together with liquid ingredients to make a cleansing paste, many of you have requested the “finished product” so this inspired me to create the paste for you and Honey Butter Face Polish was born.

To create Honey Butter Face Polish I whip together the Foaming Charcoal Cleanser with a blend of cold-pressed plant oils and nut butters into a creamy paste then enhance it with my “Alpenglow” blend of essential oils. To use the scrub you just scoop some out, apply to warm wet skin, scrub, rinse, pat dry, DONE!

BEST FOR:

Just about everyone can enjoy this scrub a few times a week at night. (Never scrub your face in the morning, more details below)

An excellent choice for acne-prone and mature skin types.

If you have very reactive, sensitive skin or feel persistently parched, I suggest using this scrub combined with my Cold Cream Cleanser (see instructions below). This approach will provide more protection from stripping.

KEY INGREDIENTS

  • The purest, organic, cold-pressed, virgin, unrefined seed oils including jojoba, almond, and avocado, whipped with nut butters (Mango, Shea kokum).

  • Pure, Raw, Fresh, Local honey.

  • Stone ground, organic, sprouted white rice.

  • Activated bamboo charcoal to detox skin.

  • Alginic Acid from wild harvested, cold water seaweed.

  • Finely powdered botanicals for gentle exfoliation including aloe, salt, sugar, and wild mint I’ve collected from the mountains.

  • Thioctic Acid (ALA is ALPHA LIPOIC ACID). A gentle, exfoliant and antioxidant known to improve skin tone and texture, helping reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. ALAs are more gentle than BHAs in skin care.

  • Non-nano zinc oxide - a deeply nourishing ingredient renowned for its healing properties and anti-acne benefits.

  • Mild, coconut-derived soapy ingredients: Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSA) and Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI) provide the bubbles and help ensure a quick rinse and are both proven to be very gentle on your skin and the environment. SLSA and SCI are both natural alternatives to skin-irritating, synthetic SLS. SLSA and SCI are both certified natural ingredients and earn COSMOS certification (organic or natural cosmetics) | Ecocert. (NOTE! SLSA and SCI are both naturally derived from coconut, not to be confused with SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate which are entirely synthetic known to be a common irritant).

HOW TO USE:

This scrub needs “slip”. To help ensure a gentle scrub always apply to wet skin or apply on top of my Cold Cream Cleanser. Note that this is not a mask - please rinse it off within a few minutes of application.

METHOD 1:

  • Remove eye makeup with your preferred method.

  • Apply about an almond-sized amount of the scrub to WET skin. (This cleanser is preservative-free. Please ensure no water enters the jar. Water provides an environment in which bad bugs and mold can grow. I suggest this scrub not be used in the shower unless you are careful not to allow water droplets in. That said, I suggest you apply the scrub at the sink, then enter the shower to scrub and remove.

  • Use fingertips to exfoliate briskly but gently. Remember to get right up next to your hairline and jaw, these are places we sometimes overlook. And give your lips a good once over too!

  • After about 1 - 2 minutes… Splash with warm water and then with open palms, briskly wash your face. You should notice bubbles now!

  • After a few moments of brisk washing, splash a few times with warm water (never HOT) to rinse. Then always wipe gently with a warm, clean, wet washcloth to ensure all debris is removed and your face is clean!

  • Pat dry, spritz with hydrosol to condition and tone (re-acidify) the skin, and apply your favorite lotion, cream, facial oil etc.

METHOD 2:

  • First, apply My Cold Cream Silk Cleanser to dry skin with dry fingers and massage gently to begin loosening debris. Then apply a small amount of Honey Butter Face Polish and follow the steps above.

SKIN CARE TIP: Only wash and scrub your face at night.

New skin cells need time to mature. When we exfoliate by any means, new skin cells are revealed.

These baby skin cells are not ready to take on the stressors of the day - most importantly, SOLAR RADIATION!

Making a habit of only washing and exfoliating at night gives the new skin cells enough time to mature fully. By the morning, our skin is better able to protect itself from the stress of the day (solar radiation, pollution, allergens) and retain skin hydration, reducing the feeling of tight, parched, dehydrated skin. Our skin will feel better and look better over time.

Harmful solar rays penetrate windows and clouds! Wear a good mineral zinc sunscreen every day to prevent premature aging, and remember to remove it at the end of the day. Studies show that over 80% of skin damage is due to solar damage. Please choose a simple mineral sunscreen, not a chemical sunscreen (for a number of reasons!). Can You Reverse Sun Damage?

EXFOLIATING DO’S and DON’TS (no matter what you use for this step)

Regardless of what you use to exfoliate your face (chemical or mechanical) only ever exfoliate at night (or at the end of the day, after exposure to sunlight is no longer an issue). This allows the new, immature skin cells you’ve revealed plenty of time (8-12 hours) to mature. In the morning, after a night of restorative sleep, the new skin cells have matured and are best able to take on the stress of the day (namely damaging solar rays).

Only exfoliate 2-4 times a week - this depends on many factors. Most notably - AGE! Young women - under the age of 30 without acne should only exfoliate 1 -2 times a week! Those with acne, very, very gently 3-4 times a week. Women 30-40 about 3 times a week, and women over 50 - 4 nights. Everyone is different of course, the most important thing to remember is that young skin (under 30) exfoliates naturally very well! As we advance past 30 it starts to slow down and we need to help it along a bit. Regardless of your age or skin condition, don’t over do it please! Your skin will look better and perform best when we just exfoliate gently and not too often.
